LATAM Airlines Group Plans African Market Debut In 2016

TAM Linhas Aéreas (JJ, São Paulo Congonhas) is planning to commence scheduled passenger flights to South Africa later next year in a move that will see the LATAM Airlines Group making its African debut.

LATAM Airlines Group S.A. is a Latin American airline holding company incorporated under Chilean law with its headquarters Santiago, Chile.

The Group said in a statement that regulatory approvals aside, the Oneworld affiliate would ply theSão Paulo Guarulhos-Johannesburg O.R. Tambo route which is currently dominated by Star Allianceaffiliate, South African Airways (SA, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo).

Varig (RG, Rio de Janeiro Int’l) was the last Brazilian carrier to service the route until 2006 when it ceased operations.
