Fly Blue Crane Launches Flight Operations In South Africa

New domestic airline Fly Blue Crane has officially launched flights to three micro-cities from OR Tambo International. The inaugural flight left OR Tambo for Bloemfontein on Spring Day, 1 September, sporting the motto ‘a fresh approach to air travel’.

Fly Blue Crane is a South African-based start-up planning to launch scheduled regional services to under-served destinations in Mozambique and Tanzania in 2015.

Fly Blue Crane is now offering a premium service to Bloemfontein, Kimberley and Nelspruit from their hub in Johannesburg.

The airline is headed by three ex-SAA Executives, Siza Mzimela (Fly Blue Crane CEO), Theunis Potgieter (Fly Blue Crane COO) and Jerome Simelane (Fly Blue Crane’s GM Commercial).

Simelane said in a statement they aim to use their experience in the industry to ensure success for the new airline. “By using what we have learned over the years about international airline best practice, we have also created a cost structure which allows us to offer competitive fares without cutting any corners on quality, safety and reliability,” he explained.
